SKYMAN

synopsis

This is an independent feature film by 'Blair Witch' writer/director Dan Myrick.

Carl Merryweather is a self-described UFO “experiencer”. Back in 1987, on the eve of his tenth birthday, Carl allegedly came into contact with an “alien lifeform” while camping with his father in the high desert of Apple Valley, California. Although the following day local news reported that several locals had witnessed a “strange object” hovering in the sky, it was the unvarnished testimony of young Carl’s direct contact that had the most impact on the local community. Now, almost 30 years later, Carl is convinced that the Being he calls the “Skyman” is destined to reunite with him at that very same spot in the desert. The only difference now is that he’s determined to document the entire event. This film is about Carl’s journey and what he ultimately discovers when he attempts to reunite with the Alien of his youth.

  • Role Description: Some consider Carl a little ‘odd’; he’s has a high I.Q. photographic memory and was diagnosed with mild Asperger’s when he was a kid. But at first glance, he comes across as any rural, working class “Joe”; Carl is a self-described, UFO experiencer. Back in 1987, on the eve of his tenth birthday, Carl allegedly came in to contact with an “alien life-form” while camping with his father out in the high desert of Apple Valley, California. Of course, most of the people in his neighborhood don’t take his childhood recollections too seriously, despite the support of his father, of whom worked at the local Air Force Base before his death several years ago. Nowadays, Carl feels more compelled than ever to find answers with a growing sense of urgency. As he starts to put all the pieces of his past together, he can see his destiny come into focus. Maybe he was chosen and now’s the time for an other worldly reunion with the Alien of his youth?. Maybe they want something from him? Carl is not sure, but he intends to find out and is determined to document it every step of the way.

GINA CAMPBELL

  • Role Type: Supporting

  • Gender: Female

  • Age Range: 27-35

  • Ethnicity: All Ethnicities

  • Media required from applicants: Headshot/Photo

  • Role Description: Carl’s sister. She's recently divorced and now has Carl renting a room in her house in Apple Valley to help with the mortgage. She works during the day as a Nurse’s Aid at the local nursing home in town, (where their mother resides), and is taking night classes at the local community college, chipping away at her degree as an RN. She’s always been tolerant of her brother’s “eccentricities” and never really let his OCD issues get on her nerves too much. She doesn’t think too much about Carl’s alleged “Skyman” experience, but now that he’s becoming more obsessed about it, it has taken on more immediacy in her life. Deep down inside she feels he’s probably looking for redemption in some way, especially after their father died years ago and is willing to help him go out to the desert of find answers. However, she’s really hoping this so-called “Alien reunion” passes by without any incident, so they both can get back to their routine.

  • Role Description: Marcus has been Carl’s best friend since they met in middle school. He’s an imposing figure, but with a quiet demeanor. He’s lived in Apple Valley most of his life and sees no real need to move on. He works at the local hardware store, makes a decent wage and pretty much comes and goes as he pleases. He considers himself a “self-taught engineer” and has always been good with electronics, so his job suits him well. He sees Carl as an odd character, but that’s what he likes about him. Carl keeps up with him intellectually and always seems to be involved with some interesting, if not, hair-brained scheme. However, this time, Carl is really on a mission. This whole “Skyman reunion” he’s been talking about has become a growing obsession for Carl and Marcus can’t help but get caught up in his friend’s enthusiasm. He figures, “Carl may be a little crazy, but he’s not stupid and you never know, he just may be on to something.”
